The Exhibitionist:
Against from within
Against from within
Visualising current social realms
In Spring 2019 the magazine Real Review defined being against from within as “to identify critical concentrations of power, become experts in their internal logic, then develop methods for inhabiting and altering their operations”
…It is also to make connections between everyone who wants to bring about change, organising a network that could be stronger than ruling powers.
…and it is creating and holding fast to an ideal whilst you are surrounded by threats to your existence.
This exhibit reveals the organisational systems of the 2019 Hong Kong protests and the People’s Parliament in North East Syria. Looking at the way these two movements work, as they happen. In doing so, it gives an insight into what it means to be against from within in today’s world and how understanding these systems can foster a sense of questioning the status quo in all of us.

What is System?
System Design
“A system is a cohesive conglomeration of interrelated and interdependent parts that is either natural or man-made.”
Every system is delineated by its spatial and temporal boundaries, surrounded and influenced by its environment, described by its structure and purpose or nature and expressed in its functioning. In terms of its effects, a system can be more than the sum of its parts if it expressed synergy or emergent behaviour.”
Changing one part of the system usually affects other parts and the whole system, with predictable patterns of behaviour. The structure of any system, the many circular, interlocking, sometimes time-delayed relationships among its components, is often just as important in determining its behaviour as the individual components themselves.
System design is the process of defining the architecture, modules, interfaces, and data for a a system to satisfy specified requirements. System design could be seen as the application of systems theory.
The logical design of a system pertains to an abstract representation of the data flows, inputs and outputs of the system. This is often conducted via modelling, using an over-abstract (and sometimes graphical) model of the actual system. In the context of systems, designs are included.
